Hi! My name is Rachel (she/her). As a rising senior in Summer 2021, I studied abroad in Florence, Italy with the University of South Florida. My decision to study psychology in Italy was motivated by my interest in the subject as well as my desire to learn about different cultures. I've wanted to be a psychologist since I was in high school, and it was thrilling to learn about what I loved in a place I'd never visited. Learning about different aspects of psychology from the lecturers at my host institution allowed me to compare how psychology is practiced in Italy versus the United States. It gave me fresh perspectives that I would not have had the opportunity to experience if I hadn't studied abroad. While attending the University of Florida is a dream come true, pushing myself and finding my individuality abroad was a blast. I'd never been so far away from all of my friends and family before, but studying abroad allowed me to meet a lot of new people who were so interesting and enjoyable. I ate some of the tastiest cuisines I've ever had, saw some of the most gorgeous sights, and even got to celebrate Italy's Euro Cup victory. I grew a lot as an individual and as a student, and I'll be forever grateful that I decided to study abroad.
