Hi! My name is Nico Huergo. I studied abroad in Krakow, Poland at the Jagiellonian University School of Polish Language and Culture as a senior in Fall 2021. I studied in Poland for two reasons: To learn a new language and to experience a foreign country in a different way from just travelling there. While in Poland, I reinforced my passion for international culture and history, formed friendships with a diverse group of individuals, and, from a long-term perspective, augmented my desire to work as a Foreign Service Officer within the US Department of State. Studying abroad was something I had always desired, and with the Covid-19 pandemic postponing or cancelling my programs three separate times, it was something I had to work really hard to make happen. However, that fight was worth it as it was one of the most rewarding experiences of my life filled with travel, new friends, and great stories. My best advice for anyone looking to study abroad or planning on it is: Put yourself out there.
